Crushing on Kenzo

I'm completely crushing on anything Kenzo at the moment....

The fashion house began when designer Kenzo Takada could only afford to buy his fabrics from flea sales. As a result, Kenzo had to mix many bold fabrics together to make one garment. Kenzo's success started in 1970 and he presented his collection in New York and Tokyo in 1971. Kenzo Takada resigned from the position as head designer of Kenzo in 1999 and since 1993 the brand Kenzo has been owned by LVMH.

Things went a little quiet on the Kenzo front since LMVH took over until... the iconic 'Tiger' jumper.... inspired by a small running tiger motif inside waistbands and jackets on a piece in the archives... once the Tiger jumper debuted on the runway.. Kenzo now struggles to keep the iconic jumper in stores for more than 24 hours at a time.

And from the debut of the tiger jumper... Kenzo has gone from strength to strength...  After the tiger, came the now instantly recognisable 'eye' print. The evil eye—il malocchio—is an ancient superstition in Italian folklore, handed down from the Romans all the way to Milan Fashion Week. Most often, it’s subconsciously invoked by feelings of jealousy.  Not a print you think would work on clothing however it more than works....  it’s hard to know whether to feel jealous or creeped out (they’re all staring at me!) when looking at the pieces however, regardless of whether you feel Kenzo’s  'eye' pieces are giving you an icy stare or looking lovingly into your soul, it’s clearly the most wearable print of the season.

Check out some pieces I'm currently crushing on at the moment..

Christmas Casual

I originally started researching for this post with the theme 'four looks for under $200' in mind.... however, there are some exceptional pieces available in chain stores right now..  I couldn't limit it to four and I definitely couldn't  limit each outfit to under $200, without thinking that I've cheated you by not showing some beautiful options. The good news is... all outfits featured in this post are chain store buys.. some come in under $200 some are a little more (I will be doing 'four looks for under $200' in the near future so stay tuned!) and to make up for it, I've featured 8 options!

Its around the time of year where Christmas parties haven't quite started being celebrated yet although there are lots of last minute pre-Christmas catch ups starting to take place. Long lunches, quick dinners.. not quite dressy although not quite denim appropriate. So what to wear? my first rule is COLOUR! it's Christmas, it's fun, and hey its an excuse to dress up a little more for a lunch than you usually would. The greys, blacks and navys of Winter are making way for COLOUR, COLOUR, COLOUR! If your worried about experimenting with colours, start slowly by choosing a printed item with colours throughout,  then accessorise by picking out one colour featured in the print and choose all your accessories in that colour.

Enjoy your pre-Chrsitmas catchups in perfect casual style, Happy Clicking!

Printed Pants

I've been accused of having expensive taste, not something I deny... (and If I'm being honest the word 'very' may have preceded the word expensive more times than I care to remember). However I believe it's not how much you spend on an outfit but how you put it together.. Investing in one quality piece and wearing it a variety of ways.

A lot of people purchase items A: because they are cheap. or B: because they like the item. However the mistake most people generally make is: they see an item as one piece,   instead of visualising it as a complete outfit.  The key to shopping and getting the most for your money is to try and imagine each piece you are about to purchase as an outfit.. think of the way it complements other existing pieces you have in your wardrobe. Doing this will usually ensure that you end up with a variety of different looks instead of a wardrobe  full of black tee-shirts or white shirts and having nothing to pair them with.

In a nod to all my friends who wish i'd be a little more realistic with price points, I'm going to choose one trend and pair it four different ways and all for under $200.

I'm starting with printed pants- a trend which personally I'm loving at the moment. Sussan, Witchery and Country Road all have some great options currently in store. Usually in a light weight material like Viscose or Ryon, a pair of printed pants will see you right through Spring and the cooler Summer days.

For this post, I've chosen my personal favourite of the picks available in stores, the 'Bandana Print Pant' from Seed Heritage. It has great colourings and would work for both fair and darker skin tones. All looks are under $200.

Enjoy!

A Prayer To The Fashion Gods

Many of you may already know (especially those who follow my Instagram) that pieces from fashion house Givenchy make my heart skip a beat. I consider creative director for womenswear and haute couture since 2005 Riccardo Tisci a genius! His lines always manage to have a combination of classic pieces juxtaposed with those that push the boundaries sitting side by side down the runway.

I do admit I sat on the fence during the whole ubiquitous Rottweiler image craze.  Which debuted on a tee-shirt in the fall 2011 mens collection but quickly became the must have item amongst men and women alike.

However the fall 2013 collection- OH MY! In particular the Bambi print neoprene sweatshirt. Combining my love of Disney with my love of Givenchy = Genius!!

This oh so lust worthy sweatshirt had me weak at the knees and has for a few months now.. combined with the Tubular belt in black braided leather to cinch in the waist..... oh the things I would do to get my hands on it......

Luckily for my Visa card, its sold out everywhere at the moment... but I'm hoping if I pray enough, the fashion Gods will answer my prayers and it will pop up during my upcoming trip to America and at 50% off please!

Stakes Day

As promised the last instalment of looks for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. Spring Racing Carnival ends with Stakes Day, otherwise known as family day.

Keeping in mind family day has a much more relaxed atmosphere and usually involves running around after children.. fashion for Stakes Day replicates the theme of family and takes on a much more relaxed feel. It typically encompasses florals, colour, maxi-dresses and for most mums- flat shoes.

I've chosen four looks suitable for all yummy mummies. I've paired them with flats keeping in mind that I don't think pushing a pram around or holding a toddler in sky scraping heels is the most comfortable or desirable look- However feel free to get in touch for some heeled options, if you're past the days of pushing around prams or chasing toddlers.

If your not heading trackside this year, all of the featured looks work just as well at family barbecues and long lunches.

Enjoy and heres hoping all you yummy mummies get the opportunity to sneak in at least one glass of champagne!

Finding 'The One'

When I decided I was going to attend Derby Day this year, my immediate thought was what to wear?! I'd typically wear an LBD but this year I wanted something a  little different. So I decided on a LWD (Little White Dress).

Once I'd decided I wanted to wear white with black accessories, my hunt for the perfect little white dress began... I wanted something fitted and structured. As soon as I found Camilla and Marc's Garden Dress- I knew I'd found 'the one'. I've never really been a fan of neoprene fabric and felt the neoprene phase would fade pretty quickly. However this dress is genius! not completely made from neoprene, the description of the dress labels it a 'scuba like' fabric. It's stiff enough to  hold its shape whilst feeling soft and wearable at the same time. Its not heavy the way a neoprene dress would be and drapes in all the right places. The hem length is a little shorter than I'd usually wear so I ensured I balanced it out by wearing a black round toe pump. As the dress is statement enough on its own, I kept my accessories minimal and of course stuck with the black and white theme. My oversized bow fascinator was Alannah Hill and finished off the outfit perfectly.

The hunt for the perfect dress is always a hard one but once you've found 'the one' I promise you'll know and if you don't- Enlist the help of a stylist to narrow your options down for you- It's what we love to do!

As always feel free to comment/get in touch
